Deputy President William Ruto has requested Members of Parliament not to waste time grilling the country’s security chiefs over the move to withdraw elite General Service Unit (GSU) officers guarding his residences and replacing them with Administration Police.
Reacting to the reports that the National Assembly Committee on Administration and National Security had summoned Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i, PS Kibicho and Inspector General of Police Mutyambai to appear before it tomorrow to shed light on the change of the DP’s security team, Ruto said the MPs should not waste time on what he termed as non-issue.
” Parliamentary time should not be wasted on non-issues. The AP is a professional security service and those who think its a down grade are WRONG.” – Ruto tweeted on Tuesday.
He added that parliament should focus on deploying officers to areas hit by insecurity
” Parliament should instead focus on Deployment to serious security situations in areas where bandits are causing mayhem & destruction. ” Ruto added
The change of guard was effected on Friday afternoon at his official Karen residence, Nairobi, and Sugoi home in Eldoret with the GSU officers being replaced with Administration Police officers from the Security of Government Buildings Unit (SGB).
Ruto on Monday officially welcomed the new security team by sharing a come of team with the team.
