Garissa Governor Ali korane released on 3.25M cash bail, barred from accessing county offices

Garissa county governor Ali Korane was on Tuesday released on Sh3.25M cash bail or a bond of Sh 5 Million with a surety after facing graft charges over misappropriation of public funds amounting to Ksh 233Million linked to world-bank funded project.

Ali Korane and 4 other co-accused were also barred from travelling outside the country and accessing county offices.

Mr Korane was charged alongside county finance chief officer Ibrahim Nur Malow, head of Treasury Mohammed Ahmed Abdullahi, municipality county executive officer Abdi Shale and the municipal head of accounting Ahmed Abdullah

Appearing before Milimani Anti-corruption Court chief magistrate Douglas Ogoti after spending the night in police cells, the four denied eight counts which include conspiracy to commit an offence of economic crime, misappropriation of public funds and willful failure to comply with laws relating to management of funds.
